Life is not the straight path

I'm back after almost a year in April of putting my energies into a role that came on my path to serve others in a corporate venue. I'm currently a Yoga Coach at Virgin Active my role is to grow the yoga community by supporting the existing teachers, members and implemenation of new products and ideas. I'm not the identity of the role, but passionate about what I'm doing there all things yoga. I love teaching yoga and I want to get back to doing more of that, not only at Virgin but further afield like a use to.

It's been a great experience to date but what I realised is I've been neglecting my own path in some ways. Yogafit - teaching yoga is my passion, I have just finished a week of yoga teacher training with Shiva Rae an American yoga teacher full of life and love. So many things I have taken away from this time with Shiva the most prominent being to get back on my own raft (mat) and replenish, reset and walk in the direction to fulfil my destiny.

Yoga has so many ways of helping us see the light, the simple things we can do to care more, to listen and making time to make a difference in the most simple of ways.

A lady was lost in the car park yesterday, I think we've all been there when we're distracted and haven't taken note of the location we parked before heading into shopping. I could see she was a little distressed, so I stopped and we worked out together where she came in and the level of the carpark that was. Got her to get out the auto open button of her car to start beeping, that saving light you see flash by. We had a good laugh and then off we sailed on to our next destinations. I do hope she found her car, what I do know was for the short time we had together, I listened, cared and we laughed. Simple things in the moment that's what life is made up of, the curves and bumps along the way, to stop, breath, care, love, listen and then proceed along the not straight path.

Greeting the Day – A sequence to ground you by helping you feel connected to the earth through your feet, like roots anchored to the earth, while your breath awakens you to shine. Gratitude for the sun rising to give you life.

 

Low lunge

Step right foot forward w Left knee on the ground w Inhale (align ankle and knee)

Step left foot forward to meet right: Exhale

Half way lift Inhale

Forward Fold Exhale

Tadasana Inhale

Raise arms and on the exhale w Bring your hands in front of the heart in Anjali mudra (palms pressed together in prayer) Pause for one breath to feel

Tadasana

Reach arms wide and above as you inhale

Forward Fold Exhale

Halfway lift Inhale

Step right foot back to bring your knee to the ground and leftfoot forward (align ankle and knee), still on inhale breath

Down dog Exhale as you step back to down dog (long exhale)

Child’s pose (knees wide or knees together)

Repeat the above sequence starting with low lunge

Bring this practice to a close with:

Dragonfly pose 2 minutes

Knees to chest 30 seconds to 1 minute

Corpse pose (Savasana) 5-10 minutes

Believe in yourself

To Believe in yourself... Have you ever doubted your ability, never finished what you started out to achieve? Could fear of not being good enough or to fail come to mind?

Where does this self talk come from? The mind/ego or the heart? Fear v's Love

Letting go of fear allows you to go deeper into your being, centre your focus around your heart, feel all of it, every emotion, yes not just the happy one!

You'll discover a shining star! Trust in your power of love. Feel an ocean of love and light within your body, a calmness at your core. Can you breath and listen to your breathe, now can you let go of the fear your mind is creating to trust in your love. Right now in the moment where you can change your thoughts from fear to love and step into your potential of endless possibilities. Knees together will release tightness in the lower back and knees apart around the width of your yoga mat will work opening the hip region more. Working with the arms forward also works along the meridian lines of the heart/lung, small/large intestines,Circulation, Respiration and Elimination. Try it for 5 mins being aware of your breath, bringing you into the present moment, calming you and your breath down to the earth, finding stillness and peace. YIN YOGA

  • Uses long-held, floor-based poses to stimulate and nourish the major energetic channels (meridians) that are housed in the core of the body, strengthening the quality of prana in the body, as well as assisting to mobilise stagnant prana, directly affecting organ health. The sequences and poses used in yin yoga target the 'yin tissues' in the body - tissues which are denser and more internalised in the body such as bones, ligaments, tendons and fascia. Practicing yin yoga assists with developing flexibility in the physical body, whilst at the same time, developing clarity and wakefulness of mind. Yin yoga also creates a 'holding space' to deepen yogic practices such as pranayama and meditation.

Feel so much less stressed after being to yin yoga time for being still, opening and being aware of my physical body, emotional body and my busy crazy thoughts. Shoelace pose: Great  pose for compressing the meridian lines of the Liver, Spleen and Kidney organs and pulling on the outside of the hip along the GallBladder line.  Forwarding forward will pull on the Urinary Bladder meridian line. Physically the hip joints are externally opening. Shoulders can also be internally or externally rotated dependant on the position.

Mindfulness

When do we really listen and act upon it?

I woke up this morning as the alarm went off a 5am to get ready to practice at 6am. Within seconds the inner voice said, " time to be still, to be with what is, go back to sleep." 

Today has been a karma yoga day, meeting some friends to pick up rubbish from our local beach. Being mindful with each step, not to judge as you pick up cigarette butt after cigarette butt, plastics and polystyrene. Instead knowing I'm helping to maintain this beautiful amazing coastline, my home and hopefully people seeing me pick up rubbish will help them to practice the same. Maybe next time they put their cigarette butt in the bin, being mindful of helping to keep our magnificent ocean and all its creatures healthy, happy and available for all to enjoy. OCEANS OF LOVE; 

Giving back to the community that has given me so much

Being a qualified Power yoga teacher and also trained in the art of assisting, I am now volunteering each week to assist students deepen their experience in their practice. A strong vinyasa flow, averaging 60 peeps each class, high energy. It's a work out assisting believe me!
 
I serve with love and give back to a community that has been so amazingly special to me. The philosophical messages delivered in class, flowing sequences, breath and mindfulness create the perfect way to view life and make changes for the better. Namaste!
